As a business owner in the Atlanta area, you expect your commercial or industrial roof to last a long time. While many do last as long as 25 years or so, roofs take a lot of abuse. Think about heavy rains, hail and high winds during thunderstorms, scorching heat in the summer months and even snow or ice on occasion during the winter. That’s a lot of wear and tear!
When you aren’t an expert in commercial roofing, you simply don’t really know what you’re looking for when trying to inspect the roof after a storm or bad weather. Regardless of the type of roof you have or materials used, Mother Nature can inflict substantial damage.
Imagine this: A heavy thunderstorm with 60 mph winds and large hail has rolled through. When it’s over, you do your best to determine if the roof experienced any damage. From the ground, everything looks fine. If you go up on the roof (which we NEVER recommend), you still don’t see any obvious problems. While that may put your mind at ease, what you don’t know is there are often problems that are invisible to the untrained eye. There could be a void around a penetration such as a roof vent, a tiny crack in the caulk. Either way, this is the ideal opportunity for water to creep inside without you knowing it – until you do, months later when you notice a few ceiling tiles have become discolored.
Inspecting your commercial roof after any major weather event is recommended in order to spot any potential problems so commercial roof damage can be repaired before it becomes a much bigger problem. Look carefully for damage to roofing tar/caulk, and for indications of peeling, cracks, blistering, bubbling beneath roof materials, or other damage. Also pay close attention to perimeter areas, as this is where damage usually starts. Better yet, call in the professionals so you will have peace of mind.
At Kelco Roofing we know the importance of regular roof inspections for spotting minor damage before it becomes a much costlier problem, impacting not only your roof but the interior of your business. We invite you to give our Atlanta commercial roof professionals a call today for any problem, large or small.
